Reading Time: 8 minutesDelhi looks completely different in the morning. Before the traffic, before the chaos β thereβs a calm side most people never see.
Over the years, Iβve explored multiple spots across the city during early hours β for walks, photography, and simply slowing down.
What makes mornings special in Delhi is the soft light, fewer crowds, and a peaceful vibe thatβs hard to find later in the day.
Here are 9 of my favourite morning places to visit in Delhi β perfect throughout the year.
Table of Contents
Why I Made This List
I’ve been going out to shoot Delhi in the early hours for years now. Not for any particular assignment β just because Delhi before 9 AM is a completely different city. The light is softer, the lanes are quieter, and you actually get to see the place.
This list comes from personal experience. Every spot here I’ve visited multiple times, most of them well before sunrise. I’m not recommending anything I haven’t stood in front of with a camera.
Best Time to Go
The window that actually works: 6 AM to 9 AM. After that the light gets harsh, and also the crowds build up, and you’ve lost what makes these places special in the morning.
Weekdays over weekends β especially for Chandni Chowk and Jama Masjid. Weekend mornings bring out joggers and families to Lodhi Garden which is fine, but Old Delhi stays genuinely empty only on weekdays.
Why mornings are the best time to explore Delhi?
- Less crowd
- Better light for photography
- Peaceful environment
- Cooler temperature (especially important in Delhi)
Best Morning Places to Visit in Delhi
1. Chandni Chowk

Photograph Β© Vansh Tiwari
Undoubtedly, Chandni Chowk is one of the busiest & crowdest markets in Delhi on all 7 days.
It does get crowded later in the day, but mornings feel completely different. Roaming in winter has a different feelβslight sweat & minor fatigue.
If you’re a photo fanatic, and especially if you explore Chandni Chowk early, like 7 a.m.:
- You’ll spot the beautiful light rays falling in the narrow lanes.
- Absolutely no crowdβa very rare sight!
- a calm, cinematic morning vibe & eyeing interesting characters on the streets.
- It would be the most suitable time to capture the moments.
Indeed, the shops won’t be open, therefore, it would be perfect to explore.
In the last 1 year, I have been to Chandni Chowk in the morning about 7-8 times. And every time, I find captivating visuals and characters to seize the moment.

2. Jama Masjid

The architecture of Jama Masjid will forever leave you amazed at any time of the day.
Since the Jama Masjid is situated a little high, though, visiting it in early mornings, especially when the air feels fresh and quiet, when it touches your face is simply awesome!
Plus, the direction of light in the morning will not be that high. So, you can also see beautiful light patches and streaks making their way and hitting the ground.
Likewise, the Jama Masjid also gets extremely crowded towards the evening. But visiting it in the morning is the best decision.
I have been to Jama Masjid almost 10 times, 3-4 times in the morning.
In the last 1 year, I noticed nobody was allowed to enter the Jama Masjid before 11 a.m. But before that, I even visited Jama Masjid at 6:30 a.m.
So, you can still check if the people there are allowing visitors inside the early morning, or else you can explore Chandni Chowk.
Both Chandni Chowk and Jama Masjid are almost 10 minutes away from each other.
But, if you want to get the feel of both the places, it would become slightly difficult to cover both the spots in the early morning.

3. Yamuna Ghat
One of the most wonderful places to chill in the peaceful morning is the Yamuna Ghat.
The sunrise and the colors in the atmosphere will leave you stunned and wanting you to come back repeatedlyβThough, I visited repeatedly!
Last year, I visited Yamuna Ghat 4 times in the morning to witness the splendid sight.
But, how can you overlook the seasonal migratory birds (best seen during certain months).
To witness the most promising moments, you must reach before sunrise and let the magic unfold.
Trust me, Delhi’s Yamuna Ghat is the topmost place to visit in Delhi in winter.

4. Lodhi Garden

The perspective
Visiting Lodhi Garden in the morning is equally rewarding as the other spots.
The picture-perfect Lodhi Garden is perfect for early morning visits, either for a walk, to spend some peaceful time, for a family picnic, or for photography.
The soft morning light sets up a dreamy mood for a dreamy visit to the garden.
Nevertheless, the garden is largely spread, so you can easily spend plenty of time.
Also, Lodhi Garden is an ideal spot to take sunbathing.

5. Lodhi Art District

Lodhi Art District is perfect for a morning stroll.Β For more detailed info, you can read my Lodhi Art District Blog.
Usually, the art district doesn’t draw a lot of vehicle movement throughout the day, but you can visit in the morning to see the graffiti vibes.
Lodhi Garden to Lodhi Art District is 10-15 minutes away approximately.
I made a short documentary on the Lodhi Art District. For that, I visited the Lodhi art district several times, both in the morning and the evening.
Therefore, if you love to explore & photograph, the light in the morning will make your morning efforts worth visiting.

6. Zoological Park

I have been telling a lot about visiting early in the morning. The sunlight is the reason for that!
Early morning light here is softer and more flattering for photography. In addition, the sun’s rays make it even more captivating to ponder.
During the photowalk with Fujifilm India, I visited the Delhi Zoological Park. To carry DSLR cameras inside, you have to pay a fee. Since Fujifilm organized it, we didn’t have to pay anything for carrying cameras inside.
However, you can carry your phones, it’s just preference. I like to carry my camera everywhere.
We entered the Zoological park at around 7 a.m., perfect to spot different animals sunbathing.
I feel this place is a little out of the box. Hence, you must add Zoological Park in your places to visit in Delhi in winter.
7. Majnu Ka Tila

The Slow Shutter, Majnu-Ka-Tila
Majnu-ka-Tila was the location from where I used to take overnight buses to go to the Himalayas.
Till then, I didn’t realize and showed interest in visiting this morning spot.
Passing small alleys, eyeing monks, and having paranthas & momos in the cute little cafes will ultimately satisfy your morning visit.
And, also don’t forget to visit the Tibetian Monastery.

At Majnu-Ka-Tila, the sunlight arrives slightly later due to narrow lanes than in other places because this place has small alleys and tight establishments, making it difficult for the light to touch the ground.
But when the light finds its way, the places appear more stunning than ever.

8. Agrasen ki Baoli (Stepwell)

Agrasen ki Baoli is hidden inside narrow lanes of Connaught Place β one of Delhi’s busiest areas.
While roaming around Connaught Place on a weekend morning, I got an idea to visit Agrasen Ki Baoli which is almost 15 – 20 mins away by walking.
You’ll find symmetry, shapes, pigeons and very much needed, less crowd in the morning before 8a.m

9. Humayunβs Tomb

Humayun’s Tomb in BNW
The BNW morning at the Humayun’s tomb is perfect to see from another perspective.
Humayuns Tomb opens by 6 a.m., and there’s no better time than just after sunrise to observe the light. Significantly, this place becomes extremely crowded as the day proceeds. Therefore, visiting earlier is the most promising option.
The price for an entry ticket is Rs. 40 per person.
Humayun’s Tomb is also a perfect for relaxing in soft morning sunlight
