Petronas Twin Towers — Tickets, Timings & Everything You Need to Know

Reading Time: 11 minutes

When planning our visit to Kuala Lumpur, we prioritized seeing the Petronas Twin Towers as one of the top attractions.

Indeed, on the very first day in Kuala Lumpur, we visited Petronas Twin Towers when we dropped off from a hop-on-hop-off bus.

Hop on hop off bus

hop-on-hop-off bus

The decision was right, but I felt the time of the day was questionable because the sun was right above our heads, and we were sweating within a few minutes.

Nevertheless, it’s fascinating to eye the world’s tallest Twin buildings at 1,483 feet tall.

Visiting Petronas Twin Towers Kuala Lumpur has to be on your list, even if you have a handful of days. Here’s the ultimate guide to experience the best of Kuala Lumpur in 2 days.

Afternoon – The first sight

We spent quite some time photographing and admiring the Twin Towers from outside in the afternoon.

Though, seeing us struggling to take a group photo, a person helped us capture the moment.

Our first sight at the twin towers

Now, it was time to go inside.

We happily proceeded, our clear motive led us straight to the Petronas Twin Towers ticket desk.

But, this news disappointed us:

the Petronas Twin Towers tickets were completely sold out. And, even for the next 3 days.

Fortunately,

The tickets are available for the 4th day.

Indeed, that would be our last day in Kuala Lumpur. In the evening we needed to catch the flight. Thus, we reserved our tickets to experience in the morning.

Nevertheless, we got tickets at a preferred time slot, which was important.

How to Book Petronas Twin Towers Tickets?

Book as early as possible — tickets sell out days in advance, especially on weekends and during peak tourist season. We learned this the hard way. When we showed up on Day 1, tickets were sold out for the next 3 days. We managed to get the 4th day slot — our last day in KL.

Where to book

  • Official website: petronastwintowers.com.my — most reliable, book directly here
  • Klook — sometimes has availability when the official site shows sold out

Ticket price

  • Non-Malaysian adults: 98 MYR (approximately ₹1,800)
  • Children below 12: Discounted rate — check official site
  • Malaysians: Subsidised rate

The ticket lets you experience the Petronas Twin Towers skybridge, observation deck, and digital display.

My recommendation: Book minimum 5–7 days in advance. If you’re visiting on a weekend, book 2 weeks ahead.

How to Reach Petronas Twin Towers?

The easiest way is the KL MRT — get off at KLCC station on the Kelana Jaya Line. The towers are a 2-minute walk from the station exit. This is far faster and cheaper than Grab during peak hours.

By Grab

Straightforward from anywhere in KL. Drop-off point is at Suria KLCC mall at the base of the towers. Expect RM10–20 depending on distance and traffic.

By Hop-On Hop-Off Bus

Stop is right outside — this is how we arrived on our first day. Good if you’re already doing the city bus tour.

Parking

If driving, Suria KLCC mall has paid parking below the towers. RM4–5 per hour.

Suria KLCC Mall — At the Base of the Towers

The entire base of the Petronas Twin Towers is Suria KLCC — one of the best malls in Kuala Lumpur. Worth spending time here before or after your tower visit.

For Indian vegetarians: Saravana Bhavan inside the mall serves authentic South Indian food — dosas, idlis, filter coffee. We had dinner here and it was excellent. A proper relief after days of limited vegetarian options in KL.

Shopping: Suria KLCC has a mix of luxury and mid-range brands. The ground floor has a supermarket if you need to pick up snacks or essentials.

KLCC Park: Right next to the mall is a free, beautifully maintained park with a jogging path, children’s playground, and direct views of the towers. Great for photography especially at golden hour when the towers are lit.

Best Time to Visit Petronas Twin Towers

Morning (9 AM–11 AM): First slot of the day, less crowded inside, but Kuala Lumpur is often hazy in the morning which affects views and photography. This is what we did — the haze was visible from the observation deck.

Evening (5 PM–8 PM): Best for photography. The golden hour light hits the towers beautifully, and as the sun sets you get both daylight and the KL city lights coming on. If you’re a photographer or just want the best experience, book an evening slot.

Night (8 PM–9 PM): Last slots of the day. The city is lit up, which looks spectacular from the observation deck. Slightly more dramatic than evening.

Avoid: Weekends and Malaysian public holidays — most crowded and tickets sell out fastest.

Night – Musical Fountain show outside the Petronas Towers

Petronas Twin Towers at Night

Petronas Twin Towers at Night

As the clock hits 7 p.m., the fountain show starts right at the foot of the Twin Towers. It’s free of cost to see.

The surroundings become happening and lively during this time of the day.

Shortly, the music would also start. Everyone gathers around the fountain and enjoys their time.

We stayed there for almost 2 hrs.

Indeed, we spent 2 out of our 5 nights enjoying the musical fountain show and nearby. That area is perfect for enjoying the Kuala Lumpur nightlife.

Finally! The day to experience the Petronas Twin Towers

The 5 days in Malaysia went passed within the blink of an eye. Here’s the day to visit the top floor of the Petronas Twin Towers.

I got formal to wear on this occasion. Indeed, whenever I go, I carry formals, to make that day extra special. Similarly, I wore formal in Turtuk Ladakh.

Every day I used to click mirror pictures after getting ready

Thus, I got ready early and my camera was also fully charged.

Meantime, others also got ready.

We booked the grab and arrived at Petronas Twin Towers at 8:50 a.m. The first slot to experience the top floor had started lining up by 8:45 a.m. So, we’re pretty much on time.

Things to Know Before Visiting

There are certain things that you should know for an excellent experience.

Things you can carry

  1. Small bags – You can only carry small bags with you.
  2. Phones Allowed – You are allowed to bring your phones inside.
  3. Hand-held cameras – Hand-held DSLR cameras with only small lenses are permitted.

Things you cannot carry

  1. Big Bags  – The big bags are not allowed. Precisely, it needs to be deposited after the check-in queue.
  2. Tripods – Carrying Tripods and Selfie Sticks are not allowed.
  3. Eatable and Water Bottle – Food and water bottles are not allowed.

Note – There’s also a restriction on taking children from below a certain age because of high altitude. Please check with them before reserving tickets.

Important points to know before entering

There are multiple things you should take care of before making your way to the Petronas Twin Towers.

  1. Book your tickets well before your preferred date to visit.
For example: we tried to book tickets for the same day, but it was completely booked. Luckily, we got tickets for the 4th day. Thus, book in advance.
  2. Arrive at the location 15-20 minutes before your chosen time slot and line in the queue on the ground floor.
  3. Wheelchair facilities are also available.
  4. There are super fast elevators that will make you reach faster.
  5. You should maintain discipline throughout your experience.
  6. The staff is friendly and easily approachable for any queries.

Time Slots to Visit

When you are booking your tickets, choose the time slot after considering the time of the day. Ultimately, the window for each slot would be the same 40-45 minutes of tour.

From my preference,

the evening time near sunset would be perfect to visit the Petronas Twin Towers .

In the morning when the visiting time opens, the sun would be harsh, you won’t get to see that amazing light from the top.

Indeed, we went in the morning, it was hazy! The light was not good for photography. You can still visit.

So, I feel, the evening would be a good time to reserve your slot if you’re a photography enthusiast.

Our turn for the security check

Formal wear to experience the Petronas Twin Towers

The security officials gave everyone a short briefing before the security check. After that, pasted a sticker on everybody’s shoulders.

Pasted a sticker before entering on everybody's attire

Then, we passed through the check.

I was carrying my camera bag and lenses in it. They told me to deposit my camera bag before moving ahead. Hence, I took my camera and an extra lens out of my camera bag with me in my pocket and deposited the bag.

1st Stop – 41st floor – Petronas Twin Towers Skybridge

Twin Towers Skybridge

The skybridge

At exactly 9 a.m., the tour began.

After a set of individuals gathered, roughly 20-24 people, the guide arrived and took us inside the elevator. It was indeed spacious to fit all the individuals comfortably.

The first stop is the 41st floor—double-decker skybridge. It’s a twin skybridge on the 41st and 42nd floor.

The twin skybridge connecting the two towers is the highest in the world.

We were given only 10 minutes to experience it. Without wasting time, I took my camera and started pointing at the jaw-dropping sight.

Unusual perspective from the skybridge

Unusual perspective from the skybridge

The Petronas Twin Tower skybridge is built of solid glass & you can see the Kuala Lumpur city from there.

However, it was a little hazy that day. Therefore, the photographs were not as precise as I had imagined.

Nevertheless, still, it was amazing to view the city from that altitude.

The 10 minutes went quickly in clicking photographs & admiring the views. Shortly, the announcement to return came.

2nd Stop – 86th floor – The Observation deck

The top floor

Have you ever felt air pressure in your ears when in flight?

I have felt the air pressure in my ears every time the flight takes off.

Similarly, I had the exact feeling when I was on the elevator to the 86th floor. The top floor arrived way faster than I had thought.

We had 15 minutes to experience the observation deck at the Petronas Twin Towers.

The twin building

The twin building

I quickly saw a spot and first admired the spectacular view. Then, I took out my camera and began doing what I loved.

I stayed on one side of the observation deck and clicked photographs.

Meanwhile, others were also clicking the pictures.

There is also a sightseeing telescope, scale models, and interactive screens at the observation deck to enhance your visiting experience.

Indeed, the 15 minutes passed even more quickly. I needed more time to admire the surroundings but had to follow the rules.

3rd Stop – 83rd floor – Digital Displays

I first thought we were experiencing only 2 floors, 41st and 86th.

Though, I didn’t know that visiting the 83rd floor was also on the list.

83rd floor is for digital displays and contains the equivalent views as from 86th floor!

Particularly, on the 83rd floor, you can spend as much time as you want.

This was the time to utilize it more efficiently.

I found a spot and started locating interesting frames, though, I wanted myself in that frame.

Meanwhile, a fun moment. There was an individual who asked, “Are you guys here for marriage? Because you dressed formally, like black and white”.

I giggled and replied, we’re here to explore, and it’s our last day in Kuala Lumpur. Furthermore, to make the Petronas Twin Towers visit more memorable, we chose to wear formal.

Back to frame scouting!

We spent quite some time photographing from the same spot.

Woohoo!

However, we can’t stay longer as we have to go to the hotel to check out and then have lunch before leaving for the airport.

Thus, we went to the ground floor of the Petronas Twin Towers.

Before we left, we wanted to take something with us. There was a gift shop selling various items symbolizing Petrona Twin Towers, be it t-shirts, pens, or any decorative items.

I took diary as a memory from Petronas twin towers

I chose to take a diary.

Then, we headed back to our hotel.

Photography tips at the Petronas Twin Towers

Outside the towers: The best wide shot is from KLCC Park, not directly below. Go about 200 metres back into the park to get both towers in frame without extreme distortion. Early morning or evening light works best.

From the Skybridge (41st floor): You have 10 minutes. Don’t waste it adjusting settings — have your camera ready before you walk in. The glass floor gives a great downward angle on the city.

From the Observation Deck (86th floor): 15 minutes only. Pick one side of the deck and work it. Trying to cover everything in 15 minutes means you’ll end up with nothing good. I stayed on one side and it worked better.

83rd floor: Unlimited time here — this is where you can relax and compose properly. The views are almost identical to the 86th floor. Use this time well.

Haze warning: KL is frequently hazy. If you’re going specifically for photography, check the air quality index before booking your slot. Morning haze usually clears by afternoon.
